If your child is up to 4 years behind the cohort it can take 3 months or 4 years to address those learning gaps. We usually have a lot to do! Improvement comes from increased effort and being consistent. Initial testing and registration process is also lengthy. 

Cramming for exams does not develop deep understanding. Students often do not retain such learning. Plan to succeed. Don't cram.
